Diocese of North Kigezi
St Marks Chapel, along with our wider Armidale Anglican Diocese has a partnership with North Kigezi Diocese in far south western Uganda. The region is remote and poor and struggling to develop. Its natural environment has been cleared and replaced with eucalypts, bananas and grazing. It is heavily populated and over 60% are under the age of 20. The Church of Uganda remains a major social influence with 45% claiming allegiance. These factors combine to present many challenges to the church there.
St Marks support has mainly been directed towards ...
- Youth - personal and financial support and training for the Diocese Youth Director and training for church youth leaders.
- Children - Compassion in that Diocese is Chapel's recommended child support program.
- Women - funding support for the Mothers' Union development and training projects amongst women.
- Agricultural micro-enterprise - a project is being developed to establish a demonstration agri-forestry farm on Diocesan land.
As well as sharing in Chapel's Mission's Support Budget, further contributions can be made through the collection (clearly marked) or via direct debit and a team is being formed to carry out ongoing fundraising - stand by!
